Sugar n’ Spices owner has been very busy the past month.
For 4th of July we helped provide baked goods for the Elim Community Church’s annual bake sale up in the Library park during Heritage Days. For this we made apple and peach crisps ( which go great with BBQ), rhubarb crunch bars ( which is basically crisp topping layered as a bottom crust, then rhubarb pie filling evenly spread on top, and finally topped with more crisp topping and pressed together.), and finally we did double chocolate-chocolate chip cookies ( every chocolate lover would enjoys these : ), they are dark chocolate cookie dough with chocolate chips folded in. Chocolate divine). Next year Sugar N’ Spice might be looking at getting their own booth to support Elim and get their name out there.. We will keep you posted : )
Then this past week we did a special cake for a somebodies uncle who turned the big 50 : )… This uncle has a famous saying of “Don’t be such a cupcake” whenever he hears somebody whining.. So in honor of that we did a huge cupcake that could feed up to 15 people… his favorite drink is Rum and coke, so we flavored the cake batter with rum and then created coke frosting. To do the coke frosting, we took at 12 oz bottle of coca cola and reduced it down till it was syurpy (about 1/8 of a cup), let that cool and folded it into the buttercream. For the future we know that we should of used more than one 12 oz bottle to get a stronger flavor, but the flavor was there enough for this time.
This coming week Sugar N’ Spice has their first wedding cupcake adventure. We need to make 190 cupcakes (vanilla, chocolate, and lemon) and deliver and set them up out on Diamond Cove Island, Portland Maine. We will keep you posted on what happens….
Pictures of all this will be coming soon…….

Ok so again it is time to share with you the creation that I decided to make for the dessert of the month. This month I shared with everyone one of my mother’s favorite desserts a Banana cream cake. This cake is so simple you would be surprised but it is delicous! It consists of a Vanilla sponge cake layered with smashed fresh bananas ( and a tiny bit of sugar) and then is finished with sweetened whipped cream.
There were a mix of opinions on this cake, some felt it was wonderful and loved the textures within, while others felt the cake was a little dry and they felt that the bananas were to brown in color ( this is because when bananas oxidize (hit the air) specially in the smashed form they quickly turn color. There is nothing wrong with them, it actually can not be prevented unless you use some kind of artificial extract/chemical). But again this week I will be serving up another banana cream cake and we will see what everyone thinks then : )
See you next month

OK so this is the first of many dessert of the month’s that I will be providing on Thursday nights in Bath, Maine at Elim Community Church.
In honor of Valentines Day I made some creamy rolled truffles for everyone….. I served two different kinds, one was a dark chocolate truffle rolled in cocoa powder, and the other was a white chocolate truffle rolled in crush peppermint candies.
The response was overwhelming. One thing that this new event will help me with is being able to take criticism and apply it to my knowledge base. The overall opinion this week is that the white chocolate truffles were the best tasting. Most people thought that the dark chocolate truffles were good but the cocoa powder made them a little to messy to eat…
Ok so no desserts this coming week, but look for the truffles to reappear on February 25th, 2010!!!
P.s Not only can everyone leave comments for me on the comment cards provided but feel free to leave a note on here.
Thank you for all your support.

OK let’s get cooking… Everything will start this coming Thursday January 28Th, 2010

Just as any parent would want to, you want to make your child’s birthday special as they are. Here are a couple tips on how Sugar N’ Spice can help do exactly that….
First you need to answer these questions;
1. whats my child’s interests as of right now? Do they love baseball, do they love a particular animal or hobby, or even a certain cartoon character?
2. How many people are you planning on serving at your child’s party? Is a whole cake or individual cupcakes the best choice
3. What flavors are you and your child intrested in?
After answering these, you should take the time to contact us and see what we can do for you. We might be able to make that dream cake that your child has always wanted. Please check out our gallery to look at what we have done for parents just like you in the past.
